Lydia Perry
I am a professional writer who has a thorn in my side to create art in various forms. Despite trying to ignore this urge, or let my inferiority complex come through, I feel a strong passion to compose abstract geometric pieces, compose photography, and write.
My art and writing experience are more similar than what meets the eye. Writing is the art of composing words to convey meaning. Art can also convey meaning. I believe abstract art can also convey meaning if it is created with care and craft. For centuries, various tribes and peoples have created signs and symbols to convey meaning.
I don’t have specific words to exactly convey what my images mean, but I can tell you how my experience led met to create certain design choices. Lines, shapes, and colors show underlying meanings that we can break down.
But let’s not overthink all of this. I like to create geometric art that looks cool.
Design Influences
I have always been fascinated by geometric design. This started by early exposure to the opening scene in the PBS Hercule Poirot series. I was immediately drawn to the moody abstract art deco aesthetics. I was also fascinated by large electric power lines with towering sharp points. My dad questioned my sanity when I would exclaim, “that’s my favorite power line!” As we were driving down the interstate on summer vacations.
As a Cherokee, I was exposed early to Native American art and design from various tribes. I honor this influence in my work.
Photography
My love of geometry also comes through in some of my photography, where I focus heavily on spacial composition, color, tone, and feel. Much of photography today focuses on intense clarity and saturation. While that’s useful for everyday snapshots, photographic compositions encompass so much more to contribute to feeling and mood.
Rosaries
I began making rosaries in 2011. As a Catholic, the rosary is an imperative spiritual tool in my life. In 2024, I started my online rosary store. You can read more about my rosary design philosophy on my store page.
